With its switchboard and local directory business having already been sold to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idearc.com\/\">Idearc<\/a> for reportedly $225M, what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s left of InfoSpace was the mobile services division, which serves up managed services infrastructure for mobile carriers. This involves the technology needed for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedwords.com\/computers\/internet\/searching\/search-engines\/mobile-search\/mobile_search.php\">mobile search<\/a>, storefronts, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedwords.com\/business\/industrial-branches\/telecommunications\/telecommunications-services\/messaging\/messaging_services.php\">messaging services<\/a> and portals. This sale appears to leave InfoSpace with only its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dogpile.com\/\">Dogpile<\/a> and other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedwords.com\/computers\/internet\/searching\/desktop_search.php\">desktop search<\/a> properties, which have a very small market share. One can&#8217;t help but think that CEO <strong>Jim Volker<\/strong> and his team are selling off the company piece by piece &#8212; because that&#8217;s literally what seems to be happening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.infospaceinc.com\/\">InfoSpace Inc.<\/a> is publicly traded company on <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.google.com\/finance?q=NASDAQ:INSP\">NASDAQ<\/a> with $346M <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedwords.com\/business\/investing\/stocks-and-bonds\/stocks\/market-capitalization\/market_capitalization.php\">market capitalization<\/a> where the 52 week high \/ low is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infospaceinc.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"9\" align=\"left\" width=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/web2innovations.com\/money\/i\/logo_infospace.png\" hspace=\"9\" height=\"93\" \/><\/a>$27.76 and $8.14 respectively. The revenues have dropped to $140.54M for 2007 from $153.80M in 2006. During the first weeks of the current year the InfoSpace\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shares have slightly grown up on 4Q results rise from year ago on the assets sale.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of months ago <a href=\"http:\/\/motricity.com\/\">Motricity<\/a>, a mobile content solutions service, has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedwords.com\/business\/small-business\/merger-and-acquisition\/acquired.php\">acquired<\/a> the mobile services business unit of InfoSpace for what is said to be $135M in an all cash transaction. From what we have found out it seems the acquisition is being funded largely by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carl_Icahn\">Carl Icahn<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advancedequities.com\/\">Advanced Equities<\/a> since the company has then announced the completion of its $185M a round of funding, which was led by Advanced Equities, Inc., Carl Icahn and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nea.com\/\">New Enterprise Associates, Inc.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Wuerch<\/strong> is said will stay on as Chairman and CEO of Motricity and <strong>Steve Selman<\/strong>, the current executive vice president of InfoSpace\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mobile services business unit, will be appointed as President, Chief Operating Officer of Motricity.
